WHAT SETS US APART

First and foremost, we are NOT a kennel. We are a family owned and operated breeding program. Home Base Shepherd specializes in West German Showline German Shepherds, Long Coat and Short Coat. We only own breeding females that are descended from well-known titled bloodlines. All of our breeding females are HEALTH TESTED. We do not own in-house stud dogs. Instead, we carefully select each sire based on the specific pairing, structure, pedigree compatibility, health testing, temperament, and overall quality. This approach allows us to choose the very best match for each female—never limited to what we own, but guided solely by what will elevate the quality of our program. We specialize in LOW to MEDIUM drive. We do NOT breed high drive dogs. Our pairings are INTENTIONAL and our program is very INTIMATE, which leads to LIMITED puppy availability. Between our intentionality and intimacy, we ensure each and every puppy is allotted our full undivided attention. Our puppies typically go into new homes as family companions, but many of our puppies have also went on to be shown, participate in specialized training, and service work. Our program prepares puppies to have a solid foundation for whatever role their family wishes them to have.

Our program is rooted in immersive, purpose-driven socialization. Socialization is a vital foundation for our breeding program and our puppies. We begin handling puppies at their first breath. Our puppies are raised with puppy culture, starting with ENS (early neurological stimulation) and ESI (early scent introduction). They are all raised as true family members, living side-by-side with us every day. There is no separation from people and dogs or between our dogs. They are consistently exposed to people of all ages and abilities, other dogs of varying ages and breeds, and the natural rhythms of a busy household with uncontrolled stimuli. And with a 3 year old, a 6 year old, a special needs adult, and other dogs of different ages and breeds, you can imagine there is never a dull moment. From their earliest days, we cultivate confidence, composure, and adaptability through carefully curated, positive enriching exposures that shape sound temperaments and resilient personalities. Every interaction is intentional. Every milestone matters. Our puppies learn stability through real-life experiences. When we welcome a litter into the world, they are fully integrated into our home and daily life — building deep bonds rooted in trust, gentleness, and respect. The result is puppies and dogs who don’t just adjust to the world — they thrive in it.

The relationships and bonds each family member builds with our dogs and puppies is built on a deep level of love and care. You can see this in our toddler when the dogs go to the vet and they are taken out of the room for a shot or nail trimming, he immediately breaks down and thinks his dog is not coming back, the stranger is taking away his dog forever. This is very raw and real for him. You can see this in the gentleness our dogs provide our children and the patience and tenderness with their actions towards our adult special needs son. We are creating memories, creating and shaping life. Our entire family puts 110% into every dog and puppy we have. Every puppy is an extension of our family into yours that comes with sleepless nights, tears, endless attention, lots of kisses, countless hours, and unconditional love and care.
